Scarsdale is a premier community in close proximity to New York City, with 24 park properties for peaceful enjoyment and engaging programming.
Among these properties are the Scarsdale Municipal Pool Complex and Weinberg Nature Center.
The department offers several programs such as camps, a variety of sports, engaging seasonal and holiday programs, and special events for community-wide entertainment.
Description of Work (Illustrative Only):
Under the general supervision of the Superintendent of Parks, Recreation and Conservation, an incumbent of administers a variety of programs for the Village of Scarsdale and is responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating, and implementing a variety of services to enhance the spirit, mind and body of the residents.
The position is responsible for directing the day-to-day administration of various activities/programs and can work on a variety of programs including but not limited to senior citizens, nature, day camps, etc.
Examples of Work (Illustrative Only):
Plans, directs, coordinates and implements a wide range of activities tailored to meet the specific needs and interests of the program population; Designs and implements a program that addresses the social, physical and emotional needs of the program population; the programs include various in-house activities as well as sub-contracted service geared towards enhancing the quality of life; Assists in the preparation of budget estimates for the assigned program; Coordinates and supervises a calendar of day trips to attract and stimulate interest; Solicits information and educational materials to promote public awareness and participation in programmed activities; Maintains direct contact with Local, County, State and Nationwide agencies that provide information and services to the program population; Collaboratively works with other Village agencies to assess the needs of the program population; Uses computer application or other automated systems such as spreadsheets, word processing, e-mail and recreation programming software in performing work assignments.
Minimal Acceptable Training and
Experience:
Two years of professional experience in the planning, development, and/or administration of recreation programs and services, for a wide range of populations including senior citizens.
